  • Tips for Face Painting during the hot summer
From spooky to adorable, face paint can put the finishing touches on a great Halloween costume. It`s also a popular alternative to masks, which may be prohibited at school and can restrict vision – a big safety concern for trick-or-treaters on dark streets. But what exactly are you putting on your children`s skin when transforming them into ghosts or tiger cubs? You might be surprised. In 2014 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested 10 face paints for heavy metal contamination. They detected lead in all 10 samples. There is no safe level of exposure to lead, and because it`s a neurotoxin, it`s particularly dangerous to children`s brains. Each of the 10 samples also contained nickel, cobalt and chromium, all heavy metals that can cause skin allergies. Nine of the 10 paints contained arsenic. The FDA tests confirm findings by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics which in 2009 tested 10 face paints for heavy metals and found lead in every one of them. Six of the face paints tested by the campaign contained nickel, cobalt or chromium. What`s more, product labels gave misleading information. Some claimed to be [hypoallergenic," even though they were made with known skin allergens. You can read the campaign`s full report here. Sen. Chuck Shumer, D-N.Y., took up the cause last weekend, calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to tighten regulation of novelty cosmetics and face paints. He warned parents to use caution with these products, especially those produced in China. Before picking up face paint for Halloween (or a birthday party, school play or fair), read these simple steps: Handle kids` faces with care Follow instructions for applying and removing face paint. Avoid the sensitive eye area and mouth. Kids tend to swallow products applied to lips, so it`s best to keep lips bare or use regular lipstick (check EWG`s Skin Deep database for good options). Sweat can cause face paint to run, so if your child is likely to get hot, leave extra room around the eyes and mouth, bring a handkerchief for dabbing running paint or skip paint entirely. Same goes for rain. Watch out for allergens There is no standard or definition for the term [hypoallergenic." Some face paints and regular cosmetics marketed as [hypoallergic" contain known skin allergens such as methylisothiazolinone, a common preservative. Before committing to a Halloween look, smear a little face paint on your child`s forearm to test for allergic reactions. If you see redness, swelling or irritation, don`t put the paint on your child`s face. If your child experiences an allergic reaction to a product whose label doesn`t disclose allergens, contact the FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator in your state or fill out a Voluntary MedWatch form. These resources help the FDA identify and track problem products – and potentially remove them from the market. Check labels for color additives Color additives can be toxic. By law, the FDA must approve any color additives used in cosmetics, face paint and novelty and theatrical makeup. It also regulates how colors are used: it may approve an additive to color hair, for example, but not skin. Don`t buy face paint with non-FDA-approved colors. You can find out which ones are approved on FDA`s Summary of Color Additives. The FDA has approved eight fluorescent (neon) colors for cosmetics and just one luminescent (glow in the dark) color (zinc sulfide). DIY face paints colored with food Consider making face paint at home with common ingredients like lotion, cornstarch and color from foods such as beet or spinach. Various recipes are available online, so experiment until you find one that works for your family. If you try a homemade concoction, apply carefully, especially around eyes and mouths, do a skin test before the big day and watch out for staining. Homemade paints may not last as long as commercial options, so be prepared to reapply.

  • How to Paint a Fairy Princess Face
Face Painting is a great activity to offer at girls' birthday parties; and many little girls will love the opportunity to be transformed into fairy princesses. Buy good-quality Face paint and add plenty of sparkle and glitter to help achieve professional results. Look online for creative ideas to inspire you and use your imagination to vary the colors and design for each child, so she can enjoy her own unique fairy princess look. Tie up long hair away from the face, or secure short hair with a hairband so it doesn't interfere with the makeup. Choose an eye color, dip a medium brush in water and load it with the paint. Have the child close her eyes and brush the color gently over the eyelids, and up towards the eyebrows. Brush a sweep of the same color under the lower lashes. Draw a teardrop shape on her forehead, just above the bridge of the nose, like a jewel. Rinse the medium brush. Load it with a lighter color, and sweep it along underneath the eyebrows. Paint long swirls above the eyebrows, curling them up at the ends. Use the fine brush to outline the jewel shape in the lighter color, and add decorative dots, tiny teardrop shapes and swirls across the forehead and around the eyes. Apply glittery lipstick carefully to the lips. Use the fine brush to outline the lips if you wish. Finish by applying cosmetic glitter with the fine brush, using it to add highlights to the design across the forehead, and around the edges of the eye sockets. • Celebrate Holi with a Colorful Powder
What better way to welcome spring than by dowsing your friends – and complete strangers! – with colored powder and water? That`s exactly what happens during Holi, a spring festival most popularly celebrated in India and Nepal. The event is often referred to as the Festival of Colors, and its main purpose is to celebrate the beginning of spring. Holi celebrators say goodbye to the cold of winter and rejoice in the bright colors of a new season. Holi takes place on the last full moon of the lunar month Phalguna (February/March), and the traditions of Holi are as diverse as the colors of spring. In some states, a pot of buttermilk is hung high above the street in honor of the Hindu god Krishna who is known for a fondness of – you guessed it – buttermilk. During the celebration, dancers make human pyramids to try to reach the pot and spill the milk. While they reach, others throw colored water and powder on the pyramids as a distraction. (Krishna is also known for his playful tricks!) Holi is a brilliant way to liven your spirit and welcome the arrival of spring. Bring a dash of color to your season with our colored powder. Our product made of cornstrach and natural pigment. It's safe to use on most skin types. You can rest assured that our product is manufactured using state of the art technology and naturally derived from highest quality ingredients. Welcome to inquiry for us. • Easy Face Painting Idear for Kids Tips
Face painting tips Kids have sensitive skin, so test any face paints on a small area of skin and only proceed if there is no irritation. We all know that you need to be quick when doing face painting for kids (children don`t like to sit still for long periods of time), but if you find things going a little slower than expected, give them something to think about as they wait – swapping riddles is a great way to distract them, for example. Practice painting designs with regular paint on paper first, to get an idea of the colours and strokes you`ll use. You don`t have to paint the whole face to make a great impression – often a simple design, like flowers or stars on one cheek, or across the forehead, is effective enough. Expand your face painting tool kit to include sponges and different sized paintbrushes to get the exact effect you want. Look for water-based paints rather than oil ones, which can be difficult to remove from skin. Always use paints designed for face painting – other products can irritate the skin!

  • Face paint tips for beginners
Are you new to face painting? Welcome to a fun adventure that provides a little bit of simple joy to everyone! Even people who don`t want to have their own faces painted get a kick out of seeing the artwork on the faces of those who do. Not to mention the satisfaction the true artist will get by seeing his work on those in the crowd around him or her. A newer addition to the face painting supply family is the powder based paint stick. It activates with the use of a wet paintbrush, dries quickly, and doesn`t melt. Melting is a disappointment to both the artist and the receiver of the artwork! Here are some suggestions for supplies: A bowl of clean water 3 paint brushes (from tiny detail, medium size, and a wider flat end) 3 face sponges (do not clean with alcohol, this can cause bacterial growth) Cloth for the painter`s lap Basic colors, plus orange, gray, and purple if you can`t mix your own Paper towels Face painting patterns Wet wipes (antibacterial is better) A display of your work It helps to have at least 2 to 3 people to help with your booth if you`ll be serving a large crowd. This will give you someone to handle money if you`ll be charging for your services. One person can get supplies, such as clean water, or a drink for the thirsty artist. If you use stencils for patterns, they may need to be wiped off between faces. A painter must enjoy interacting with children of all ages. It helps to give the young child an idea of what to expect before you do each step so as not to startle. A wiggle could damage the artwork in progress! Experience and skill will set you apart, along with attention to detail combined with your own style. Patterns are one of the most important steps. But you also must decide if you need to set a minimum time limit for parties and events. Will you wear a costume for effect? Will you want to specialize in whole face patterns or small face painting patterns that just cover part of a cheek area? It is good to practice your timing so you can get the most out of it and warn your customers how long to expect to sit there. Using a timer with children could be helpful. They should enjoy having their picture taken as well, for addition to your portfolio and to use as an example for other customers. Will you want to learn how to accept credit cards for payment with bigger crowds and more involved artwork? Even when using face painting patterns rather than freestyle take care when painting around the eye area. Besides it being a sensitive area with thinner skin and not wanting to get too close to the eye itself with the paint, a squirmy recipient could create a poke in the eye with your brush if you aren`t paying close attention. For supplies you could try a costume and face painting store.

  • Ten Top Tips for Face Painting at a Birthday Party
Avoid oil based paints for young children. They tend to smudge more easily and can also be difficult to remove after the event. Always work with a damp sponge or brush, because it will make it easier to apply the makeup smoothly. Have a small bowl to dip your brushes and sponges into, a cloth to wipe away excess moisture, and a jug of clean water so you can refill as necessary. Consider including nontoxic glitter gel in your repertoire. Especially for little girls, glitter tends to be a big winner. Have a page of templates on hand, which can be referenced while doing the painting. It is far more difficult to create designs when there are no pictures handy. Have a page of templates on hand, which can be referenced while doing the painting. It is far more difficult to create designs when there are no pictures handy. Have brushes of a variety of sizes available, including very thin brushes, which can be used for outlining and fine details. Consider sticking to a theme. This will make it easier for novice face painters, as they will only have to learn a few designs in order to please the children in attendance. In addition to the brushes, you will want to have soft sponges on hand, especially if you intend to execute large designs. Sponges can quickly wear out when painting several faces, so have a few backups ready to go. Nervous about it? There are face painting stencils available today, but do recall that kids are happy to have the opportunity and will not be as critical as you are of your skills. Having unscented baby wipes at the party will also be helpful. They are very useful for removing face paint, in case a child`s skin becomes irritated. Choose a comfy chair. If you intend to offer face painting throughout the party, be sure that you are ready to cycle through face painters, or have a very comfortable chair set up, with arm support. This can be a surprisingly tiring task

  • Learning to Face Paint: Where Do I start?
Need a little help getting started face painting? Been asked to face paintat your church or school event and you just don't know where to begin? This blog post is for you. WHAT SUPPLIES DO I NEED TO GET? It is easy to get overwhelmed with all of the products available on the market today. The most important thing is to make sure you get quality paints that are specifically designed for skin. PAINT: A few things to consider when shopping for paint: Safety should be your TOP deciding factor, not price. Stay away from cheap craft store paints.Never, EVER use craft paints or acrylic paints on skin! Here's why. "Non-Toxic" does NOT mean safe for use on skin!Use only professional makeup that is FDA approved for use on skin. For someone starting out or just doing a small event here and there, I would recommend a multi-color palette. These sets enable you to try a variety of colors without spending a fortune. When you run out of a color, simply purchase a refill and keep using your set for years to come! Or, if you plan on using a lot of certain colors, you can purchase larger cakes of colors individually that will last a LONG time! BRUSHES: A few things to consider when shopping for brushes: Are you doing mainly smaller designs known as "cheek art?" I'd recommend a #1 and #4 round brush for you. Synthetic fibers will be more forgiving for beginners. Use the #4 for your main color areas, and the #1 for outlines. Are you doing larger designs like full-faces or masks? Get the above PLUS a larger flat brush and/or sponges. Most artists cut the round sponges in half, and use the flat sides. If you plan on using sponges, get a spray bottle to wet them with. NEVER leave your brushes sitting in rinse water. Check out our brush storage and rinsing tools! DESIGNS: You will need some designs for the children to choose from that you are comfortable painting. I prefer to use a board or sign that is on display so that everyone in line can see it and have their design chosen when it's their turn. Start by displaying only designs that you are comfortable painting. I have several heavily laminated design sheets available that work great...they are small enough to put in your tote bag of supplies, and sturdy enough to wash off at the end of your event! Never painted before? Then I'd recommend getting my companion book of full-color photos showing you how to paint every design on my Classic design sheets in 6 steps or less! If you'd like to design your own menu and don't want to tie yourself down to an exact image on a visual menu yet, we have a service just for you. Choose the type of designs you'd like and we will create a custom word menu for you to print out! OTHER SUPPLIES: Glitter: Not a requirement, but glitter sure does add a lot to a design! ONLY use glitter that is approved for cosmetic use by the FDA. Metallic craft glitters can scratch the cornea and are extremely dangerous! Rhinestones & Adhesive: Definitely optional, but if you are doing a fancy princess party, they are a HIT! Split Cakes: If you're familiar with one-stroke painting, rainbow cakes can really add that WOW factor in little time! Mirror: To show the kids the finished product. Bring an extra in case it breaks! Or better yet, get an unbreakable mirror. Wet wipes: In case of mistakes and to clean your hands. Makeup remover wipes work especially well! Water jar: To rinse your brushes and wet the paint. We sell a variety of great brush tubs with ridges in the bottom, which really help get your brushes clean! But to be honest, you can get by just fine with any old jar or cup of water! Towels, Chairs, Hair Clips, etc...

  • Understand How to Apply Good Quality Glow in the Dark Body Paint
We are often intrigued by unusual chemistry phenomena, one of which is phosphorescent pigment. This pigment absorbs light when available and releases it when dark. You might have seen glow in the dark process beforehand; the most common of which is the hand of a clock which looks bright green in dark for a few minutes, and slowly fades on. Other products based on this technology are glow in the dark powder, ink, paint, etc. Glow in the dark body paint has gained huge popularity amongst kids and teens. Obviously, since it lends a very intriguing effect in dark. What is Glow in the Dark Body Paint? The correct name to signify glow in the dark paint is phosphorescent paint. During the formulation of this product, phosphorescent particles (e.g., doped strontium aluminate and silver-activated zinc sulfide) that remain bright in the dark are added in a specific amount to give self-luminescent effects. It is available in a variety of colors, including green, blue, yellow, purple, red, and pink. So, you have the option of selecting colors as per your preference. In most cases, the glowing duration for red paint is lesser than other colors. Some brands claim the glow period to be as long as 12 hours, except for red which glows for a shorter period, in minutes. How to Apply? The procedure is very similar to that of normal paint. You can paint vivid designs with this wonderful product and add more fun to your Halloween parties. Other events that are perfect for using it are birthday parties, costume parties, pirate parties, concerts, and festivals. During application, use black light to see what you are painting. Where to Purchase? You should always opt for quality brands when buying this paint. Ensure that you are buying a body paint, not a fabric paint. After all, you will be applying the paint directly to your skin. Any harmful chemical present in the product may cause skin irritations and allergic reactions. One of the advantages of these paints is that you can refill it several times by using an appropriate light source. To be more precise, the light absorption and release phenomena can be repeated many times. Expose the paint to light for a few minutes, by which time the phosphorescent particles will absorb adequate light. With this step, your body paint is refilled and ready to glow when darkness fills the room.

Simple neon face paint designs Stripes and dots If you`re not the most artistically-inclined, keep it simple! Most UV face paint designs involve a certain amount of improvisation, so take something simple like dots and stripes and experiment with what looks good! Top tip: Build up your design along the natural contours of the face (around the eyes, along the forehead or the jawline, etc). Floral A floral face paint design is perfect for festival season and if you make it neon, even better! Again, we followed the natural contours of the face to create this neon face paint design and improvised with swirls, leaves and little flowers. Our advice is just go with it and see what looks good! Day of the Dead face paint designs We absolutely LOVE anything Day of the Dead themed and you can use neon face paints to create a really striking look for festivals, fancy dress parties or Halloween.

  • Face Painting Basic Tools
There are two main types of face paint, the compound makeup in a pallet form and the standard everyday liquid paint. We are focusing on the standard liquid paint here. Paint You can apply the Face Paint with fingers, sponge or a brush directly from the jar. Try to always have plenty of water, brushes, sponges, clean towels, tissues or wipes, mixing pots or palette, a mirror, book of face painting designs that they paint. Brushes: You will need a selection of different size brushes, some for painting and others for effects. Sable hairbrushes are best but nylon brushes will work perfectly well. Some people prefer flat and others round brushes, but the important thing is to a good selection of sizes. If you can, try to have one brush for each colour you are painting or thoroughly wash out the brush between colours. Sponges: Buy make-up sponges made from soft foam. You can cut larger sponges into smaller wedge shapes. Sponges are ideal for applying your base coat or large areas of one colour. Again, it is best to have one sponge per colour, as things get messy very quickly. Spare Pots or Mixing Palette: Most professional face painters prefer to mix the basic 5 or 6 colours to create their own colours. For this you will need a mixing tray or pots. You can cover the tray with a cling film or put the lid on the jars to reuse the paint later. You may need to add water if you leave it for a few days.
